Product Designer: Michael Stone

Michael Stone

Hey, I'm Michael

I'm a self-taught product designer based in Toronto. During my design career I've worked with a range of companies, from startups to multinationals, on both B2B and B2C products. I love working with people who are dedicated to solving problems through functional, intuitive, and beautiful design.

From wanderer to designer

Prior to getting started in product design I worked for several years in the financial technology industry leading a service team, developing custom websites for financial advisors, and managing the digital migration of hundreds of clients – all with a high rate of success.

But perhaps more interestingly, I lived in nine countries across Asia over the span of 16 months. My time there included scootering around Vietnam, trekking the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal, spending a month in silent meditation in Thailand, and sipping tea in the mountains of northern India. In the past I had a hobby as an automotive blogger – which enabled me to test drive some fantastically exotic cars. I’m more than slightly obsessed with watches and coffee. I also try to spend most of the summer cycling and hiking.

For me, design is primarily about helping real people solve real problems. I approach design with humility, admit when I don’t have the answers, and always defer to the user to determine the best path forward.
